In this edition we are both looking ahead and celebrating our achievements as our governance year changes to reflect that of CILIP. 2008 is the National Year of Reading and to prove that you don’t have to be a public librarian to get involved, we have a motivating article from the NYR Libraries Advisor to show you how promoting the year in your workplace could add to your own CPD. Also this year we are encouraging you to join in with the Passport to Latin America Reading Challenge, run by the Scottish division, in aid of our international projects. Turn to page 27 to discover how to get started.
Our new President, Amanda Quick, introduced herself in the Spring edition but now it’s time for our Past President, Rowena Macrae-Gibson, to look back over 2007 in the annual report. We think you’ll agree that CDG has accomplished a huge amount in the last year and everyone should be justly proud of themselves and the group, which continues to be a thriving body. The full report on last year is actually much longer so keep an eye out for it on the website to read more.
We have two articles for you on the benefits of professional activism, with Maria Cotera looking back at her time as Honorary International Officer, and Suzanne Reed exploring what she learnt from organising a series of divisional essential skills seminars. We would like to say thank you to Maria for all her exceptional work as International Officer and also welcome her successor Tracey Ainsley who introduces herself in this edition.
Plus, we have another two articles on ways to develop yourself. Janet Clapton writes on the benefits of Chartership and there is an interview with two Fellows from the prestigious Clore Leadership Programme. If you are not aware of this amazing opportunity then don’t miss the chance to find out more.
We wish you all some happy and sunny summer months and hope you’ll spend them reading your way across Latin America!
