| INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS POLICY
STATEMENT
The Career Development Group supports the principle of the right of every citizen of the world to access information and imagination, and have freely available information to inform their personal, social and intellectual development. 1. Aims 1.1 To support international relations activities, which meet the aims of the Career Development Group. 1.2 To contribute to the development of the Library Association’s international policies and priorities. 1.3 To support members of the Group in gaining a better understanding of international issues in relation to library and information work. 2. Proposed areas of activity Specific areas of activity will be selected and periodically reviewed to meet the above aims. They are likely to be within the following general areas: 2.1 Working through the structures of the Career Development Group (including National Council and the Divisions) and with the Library Association’s International Sub-Committee and International Group to achieve the aims of Career Development Group and CILIP policies as outlined in the above sections. This will include providing: support for the developing worlds, for overseas members of the Career Development Group, for freedom of information; and promoting international understanding in the profession. The need to address the bridge between information poor and information rich throughout the world. 2.2 Fund-raising for specific projects; providing, where possible, appropriate means of support in response to other LIS emergency or development needs. 2.3 Activities which, through active participation, increase the personal and professional knowledge and understanding of members about relevant matters outside the UK. These will include, whenever appropriate, study tours and exchange visits of library and information workers, and the promotion of the Career Development Group / International Group of the Library Association (IGCILIP) Hosts Directory. 2.4 Through its journal (Impact) regularly promote issues about international information and library work. 3. Objectives 3.1 Objectives for the Career Development Group’s International Relations work will be determined bi-annually by Career Development Group Council. January 2000 |
