WALES DIVISION
Minutes of the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Wales
Division of the Career Development Group held at DIS, Aberystwyth
(and video link with University of Wales Institute, Cardiff)
on Friday 24th October 2003.
Present: Neil Smyth (Chair), Siân Bowyer (minutes), Helen
Thomas (Treasurer), Michael Lowe, Rebecca Phillips, and the
students' representatives Anna Hughes, Laura John and Bethony
Luke.
1. Apologies: Alison Williams, Jayne Lewis, John Wright, Katherine
Stock, and Kate Reeves.
2. Minutes of the previous meeting
These were accepted as a true record of the previous meeting.
3. Secretary's report
The Secretary had nothing to report. Siân noted that
she would like to stand down next year, but is willing to remain
in the post until a new Secretary is appointed.
4. Treasurer's report
The Treasurer's report and VAT return for July-September 2003
is enclosed.
5. RLO report
Alison Williams (South Wales) has arranged a Chartership event
at the National Library of Wales on Wednesday, 26th November;
a copy of the programme was distributed at the meeting. This
may be postponed as only three people have responded to date.
The committee felt that the programme and speakers were good
and that the Division should go ahead as planned if possible.
The student representatives expressed an interest in the course
in order to learn more about chartering. Siân will enquire
if Alison feels that the event is applicable to students who
would like to know what chartership is all about as well as
those already in the process of chartering. The student representatives
would be prepared to advertise the event amongst their fellow
students. In addition, the committee were willing to pay for
the delegates' lunches at NLW.
Jayne Lewis (North Wales) organised a Chartership event on
10 October which was attended by five delegates from various
libraries. The day was a success and the speakers, Susan Kay
and Richard Huws, both gave powerpoint presentations, of which
Jayne has copies. Unfortunately Jayne is unable to attend the
forthcoming RLO meeting in London.
6. Publicity Officer's report
In the absence of a Publicity Officer there was no report.
The post has been advertised in the Divisional newsletter, but
there has been no response to date.
It was felt that the committee required a list of e-mail addresses
which previous PPO's used to advertise events. Neil is informed
about, and contacts, new CDG members within the Division.
With regard to publicity material Helen has agreed to look
at the costings for pens with a bilingual CDG logo.
7. Divisional web pages
Kate is still having problems repairing her PC which is corrupt
since installing FrontPage (software required to work on the
CDG pages). FrontPage is not available on the university network
and therefore she is unable to update the web pages. Kate has
contacted Paula Younger who is still happy to update the Divisional
pages on our behalf.
The committee is grateful to Paula for updating the web pages.
They contain the first two numbers of the Divisional newsletter
Ymlaen, minutes of recent meetings, and a link with DIS has
also been created. It was suggested that we continue to place
the minutes of committee meetings (separate English and Welsh
if possible) on the pages, as well as our Development Plan,
job descriptions of members of the committee and photographs
of events. Siân will forward these suggestions to Kate
who can discuss them with Paula.
8. Divisional newsletter
The second issue of the newsletter, Ymlaen, which has appeared
recently was praised. CILIP Cymru/Wales will fund half of the
costs of reproducing the newsletter (namely £70 - total
cost £140), which was posted out free of charge with the
CILIP newsletters.
The committee felt that it's distribution to all members of
CILIP in Wales had been a great success in raising awareness
about the CDG within the Division, and that this should be the
practice with future issues. It was suggested that the Welsh
CDG logo should be added to the title.
9. CILIP Wales report
Michael Lowe attended the CILIP Cymru/Wales Executive Committee
meeting on 9th October on behalf of the Wales Career Development
Group. A copy of his report is attached to the minutes of this
meeting.
Particular attention was drawn to the current healthy financial
position of CILIP Cymru/Wales. Members of the CDG committee
were asked to think of projects where CILIP Cymru/Wales could
offer financial assistance.
10. Students
Three new student representatives attended the meeting. Bethony
expressed an interest in attending the CDG National Conference,
'Skills for the future', on 10th November 2003. The committee
agreed to pay the attendance fees of £47 for three students
(travelling expenses etc, would be funded by the individuals
unless CILIP Cymru/Wales could fund these additional costs).
Bethony has agreed to advertise the sponsorship among the students.
Those attending will be required to write a brief report which
will be published in the divisional newsletter.
DIS has declined from inviting the CILIP roadshow to Aberystwyth
this year. However, the Division contributed questions and prizes
to the quiz which was held during the distance learners study
school. In addition, the Division organised a quiz for full-time
undergraduate and postgraduate DIS students on 23 October. Both
events were very successful and well attended by students; the
latest quiz was also attended by almost half of the committee.
11. CDG Wales events 2003-2004
Future meetings:
As the Division's finances are currently healthy the committee
agreed to hold meetings (in the near future) in various parts
of Wales, which might help to raise our profile; video-conferencing
facilities will still be available. Siân will make enquiries
about suitable venues, and suggestions are welcomed by other
members of the committee and members of the Career Development
Group.
11/12 March : AGM, Welsh Libraries Conference at Llandrindod
Wells
June : Gregynog Colloquium
Future courses:
26 November 2003 : Chartership event, National Library of
Wales, Aberystwyth (this is discussed under 5. RLO report)
7 January 2004 : Chris Armstrong has agreed to present a course
on Web Publishing at DIS, Aberystwyth, at a cost of £120+VAT.
The committee agreed to this proposal.
12. AoB
In her absence, Sam Edwards was elected a member of the committee.
Neil enquired if anyone would like to represent the Division
at the forthcoming meeting of National Council. Alternatively,
Neil will attend on our behalf.
Next meeting: The date of the next meeting has yet to be confirmed.
RHANBARTH CYMRU
Cofnodion cyfarfod Pwyllgor Gwaith Rhanbarth Cymru o'r Grwp
Datblygu Gyrfa a gynhaliwyd yn AGG, Aberystwyth (gyda chysylltiad
fideo ag Athrofa Prifysgol Cymru, Caerdydd) ar ddydd Gwener
24ain Hydref 2003.
Presennol: Neil Smyth (Cadeirydd), Siân Bowyer (cofnodion),
Helen Thomas (Trysorydd), Michael Lowe, Rebecca Phillips, a
chynrychiolwyr y myfyrwyr sef Anna Hughes, Laura John a Bethony
Luke.
1. Ymddiheuriadau: Alison Williams, Jayne Lewis, John Wright,
Katherine Stock, a Kate Reeves.
2. Cofnodion y cyfarfod blaenorol
Fe'u derbyniwyd fel cofnod cywir o'r cyfarfod blaenorol.
3. Adroddiad yr Ysgrifennydd
Nid oedd gan yr Ysgrifennydd unrhyw beth i'w adrodd. Nodwyd
dymuniad Siân i sefyll i lawr flwyddyn nesaf, ond cytunodd
i barhau yn y swydd hyd nes penodir Ysgrifennydd newydd.
4. Adroddiad y Trysorydd
Amgaeir adroddiad y Trysorydd a'r cyfrifon TAW ar gyfer Gorffennaf-Medi
2003.
5. Adroddiad SCC
Mae Alison Williams (De Cymru) wedi trefnu cwrs Siartro yn
Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru ar ddydd Mercher, 26ain Tachwedd;
dosbarthwyd copi o'r rhaglen yn ystod y cyfarfod. Efallai y
bydd yn rhaid gohirio'r cwrs gan mai tri pherson yn unig sydd
wedi ymateb hyd yma. Roedd y pwyllgor o'r farn y dylid parhau
â'r trefniadau os yn bosib gan fod y rhaglen a'r siaradwyr
yn dda. Mynegodd cynrychiolwyr y myfyrwyr ddiddordeb yn y cwrs
er mwyn dysgu mwy am siartro. Fe wnaiff Siân holi os ydy
Alison yn ystyried fod y cwrs yn addas ar gyfer myfyrwyr sydd
am wybod mwy am siartro yn ogystal â rhai sydd eisoes
yn y broses o siartro. Roedd cynrychiolwyr y myfyrwyr yn fodlon
i hysbysebu'r digwyddiad ymysg eu cyd-fyfyrwyr. Yn ogystal,
cytunodd y pwyllgor i dalu am ginio'r rhai oedd yn mynychu'r
cwrs yn LlGC.
Trefnodd Jayne Lewis (Gogledd Cymru) gwrs Siartro ar 10 Hydref
a fynychwyd gan bump o bobl o amryw lyfrgelloedd. Bu'r diwrnod
yn llwyddiant ac mae gan Jayne gopi o'r cyflwyniadau powerpoint
gan y ddau siaradwr, Susan Kay a Richard Huws. Yn anffodus ni
fydd Jayne yn gallu mynychu'r cyfarfod SCC nesaf yn Llundain.
6. Adroddiad y Swyddog Cyhoeddusrwydd
Yn absenoldeb Swyddog Cyhoeddusrwydd ni chafwyd adroddiad.
Hysbysebwyd y swydd yn y cylchlythyr Rhanbarthol, ond ni chafwyd
ymateb hyd yma.
Teimlwyd y dylai'r pwyllgor gael rhestr o gyfeiriadau e-bost
a ddefnyddiwyd gan SCC blaenorol er mwyn hysbysebu digwyddiadau.
Hysbysir Neil am aelodau newydd o'r GDG o fewn y Rhanbarth a
bydd yntau'n cysylltu â hwy.
Cytunodd Helen i edrych ar gostau pinnau ysgrifennu gyda logo
ddwyieithog y GDG arnynt.
7. Tudalennau gwe rhanbarthol
Mae Kate yn parhau i gael trafferth i atgyweirio ei chyfrifiadur
ers gosod FrontPage (meddalwedd angenrheidiol er mwyn gweithio
ar dudalennau'r GDG). Nid yw FrontPage ar gael ar rwydwaith
y brifysgol ac felly nid yw Kate yn gallu diweddaru'r tudalennau
gwe. Mae Kate wedi cysylltu â Paula Younger sydd dal yn
fodlon i ddiweddaru'r tudalennau Rhanbarthol ar ein rhan o hyd.
Mae'r pwyllgor yn ddiolchgar i Paula am ddiweddaru'r tudalennau
gwe. Maent yn cynnwys y ddau rifyn cyntaf o'r cylchlythyr Rhanbarthol
Ymlaen, cofnodion cyfarfodydd diweddar, a chrewyd cysylltiad
ag AGG hefyd. Awgrymwyd y dylem barhau i osod cofnodion cyfarfodydd
pwyllgor (Saesneg a Chymraeg ar wahan os yn bosib) ar y tudalennau,
yn ogystal â'r Cynllun Datblygu, disgrifiadau swydd aelodau'r
pwyllgor a lluniau o ddigwyddiadau. Bydd Siân yn anfon
yr awgrymiadau yma ymlaen i Kate i'w trafod â Paula.
8. Cylchlythyr rhanbarthol
Canmolwyd ail rifyn y cylchlythyr, Ymlaen, a ymddangosodd yn
ddiweddar. Bydd CILIP Cymru yn ariannu hanner costau atgynhyrchu'r
cylchlythyr (sef £70 - cyfanswm y gost yw £140),
a ddosbarthwyd yn rhad ac am ddim gyda chylchlythyrau CILIP.
Teimlai'r pwyllgor y bu dosbarthu'r y cylchlythyr i holl aelodau
CILIP yng Nghymru yn llwyddiant mawr o safbwynt codi ymwybyddiaeth
am y GDG o fewn y Rhanbarth, ac y dylid gwneud yr un fath gyda
rhifynnau eraill yn y dyfodol. Awgrymwyd y gellid ychwanegu
logo Cymraeg y GDG i'r teitl.
9. Adroddiad CILIP Cymru
Cynrychiolwyd Grwp Datblygu Gyrfa Cymru yng nghyfarfod o Bwyllgor
Gwaith CILIP Cymru ar 9fed Hydref gan Michael Lowe. Amgaeir
copi o'i adroddiad gyda chofnodion y cyfarfod hwn.
Tynnwyd sylw arbennig at sefyllfa ariannol dda CILIP Cymru.
Gofynnwyd i aelodau pwyllgor y GDG feddwl am brosiectau ble
gellid derbyn cymorth ariannol gan CILIP Cymru.
10. Myfyrwyr
Mynychwyd y cyfarfod gan dair o gynrychiolwyr newydd y myfyrwyr.
Mynegodd Bethony ddiddordeb mewn mynychu Cynhadledd Genedlaethol
GDG, 'Skills for the future', ar 10fed Tachwedd 2003. Cytunodd
y pwyllgor i dalu'r ffioedd o £47 i dri myfyriwr fynychu'r
gynhadledd (byddai'r unigolion yn talu costau teithio ayb, oni
bai y telid y costau ychwanegol yma gan CILIP Cymru). Cytunodd
Bethony i hysbysebu'r nawdd ymysg y myfyrwyr. Gofynnir i'r rhai
sy'n mynychu'r Gynhadledd i ysgrifennu adroddiad byr a gyhoeddir
yn y cylchlythyr rhanbarthol.
Ni fydd AGG yn gwahodd 'sioe deithiol' CILIP i Aberystwyth
eleni. Serch hynny, cyfrannodd y Rhanbarth gwestiynau a gwobrau
i'r cwis a gynhaliwyd yn ystod ysgol y dysgwyr o bell. Yn ogystal,
trefnodd y Rhanbarth gwis ar gyfer myfyrwyr israddedig llawn
amser ac ôl-radd AGG ar 23 Hydref. Bu'r ddau ddigwyddiad
yn llwyddiant mawr a mynychwyd hwy gan nifer dda o fyfyrwyr;
mynychwyd y cwis diweddaraf hefyd gan bron i hanner y pwyllgor.
11. Digwyddiadau GDG Cymru 2003-2004
Cyfarfodydd yn y dyfodol:
Gan fod sefyllfa ariannol bresennol y Rhanbarth yn iach cytunodd
y pwyllgor i gynnal cyfarfodydd (yn y dyfodol agos) mewn gwahanol
rannau o Gymru, a fyddai efallai yn gymorth i godi ein proffil;
byddai cyfleusterau cynadledda-fideo ar gael o hyd. Bydd Siân
yn gwneud ymholiadau am leoliadau addas, a chroesewir awgrymiadau
gan aelodau eraill o'r pwyllgor ac aelodau o'r Grwp Datblygu
Gyrfa.
11/12 Mawrth : Cyfarfod Blynyddol, Cynhadledd Llyfrgelloedd
Cymru yn Llandrindod
Mehefin : Colocwiwm Gregynog
Cyrsiau yn y dyfodol:
26 Tachwedd 2003 : digwyddiad Siartro, Llyfrgell Genedlaethol
Cymru, Aberystwyth (trafodir hwn dan 5. Adroddiad SCC)
7 Ionawr 2004 : mae Chris Armstrong wedi cytuno i gyflwyno
cwrs ar Gyhoeddi ar y We yn AGG, Aberystwyth, am gost o £120+TAW.
Derbyniodd y pwyllgor y cynnig hwn.
12. Arall
Yn ei habsenoldeb etholwyd Sam Edwards yn aelod o'r pwyllgor.
Holodd Neil a fyddai unrhyw un yn dymuno cynrychioli'r Rhanbarth
yng nghyfarfod nesaf y Cyngor Cenedlaethol. Fel arall bydd Neil
yn mynychu'r Cyngor ar ein rhan.
Cyfarfod nesaf: Ni chadarnhawyd dyddiad ar gyfer y cyfarfod
nesaf. |
