Career
Development Group National
Council
Council is the ruling body of the Career Development Group.
It is made up of the President, Vice President, Past President,
and eleven Honorary Officers, one voting representative
from each of the Divisions, and four voting representatives
from the Student Committee. Associate Officers are not members
of Council but attend meetings as required. Other observers
may be invited by Council to attend its meetings, for example
the CILIP: Chartered Institute of Library and Information
Professionals Liaison Officer.
Members of the Council are listed in the Career Development Group Council Directory which also lists divisional and student committee members and other useful contacts.
This is available to Council and Divisional committee members on the
intranet, hard copies are available from the Honorary Secretary.
Council normally meets twice a year, usually in May and November, at CILIP Headquarters in London and the meetings of Council normally last two days. Council meetings are supplemented by meetings of the Honorary Officers as required to carry on the business of the Group.
Each Division selects its own representative to the Career Development Group Council whose role is:
- to represent their members' views to Council, be it in formulation of Group policy, in discussion of matters referred to Council, or in initiating debate on particular matters of
concern
- to report fully in writing to their
Divisional committee on discussion at Council and to ensure that any work referred to
Divisions is completed on
time
- and to participate on an individual level at Council meetings.

Divisions: Devon and Cornwall, East Midlands, East of England, London,
North West, North Eastern, Northern Ireland, Scottish, South
East, Wales, West Country, West
Midlands, Yorkshire and Humberside.
Student Representatives:
Chair and Secretary of Student Committee and 2 others.
Observers: CILIP Liaison Officer, Personnel Training and Education Group (PTEG)
Representative.
Career
Development Group Council Committees
There are three committees which report to the Career Development Group Council. Their membership is as follows:
Martin Award Committee: President, Honorary Editor, Chair of Student Committee.
Student Committee: One student representative from each Department of Library & Information Studies, President, Honorary Learning Co-ordinator, Honorary Events Co-ordinator, other officers as available.
