Career Development Group : Chartership

Support for candidates following CILIP's Framework of Qualifications

Certification, Chartership and Revalidation

There are 12 Regional Divisions of the Career Development Group across the UK. Each local Division appoints a Candidate Support Officer (CSO) who is available to give impartial advice and support. This service is available to all Certification, Chartership and Revalidation candidates, whether or not they are members of the Career Development Group.

The Candidate Support Officer Network information page has details of how your local CSOs can help you, and how you can get in touch with them.
The network of CSOs is overseen by the Honorary Learning Coordinator

Courses for Candidates

The Group recognises that those candidates preparing for Certification, Chartership (i.e. Chartered Membership status of the Chartered Institute of Library & Information Professionals - CILIP) and Revalidation need special assistance. Courses on professional development are held frequently across the country, and details of these can be found on the CILIP website

Mailing Lists

Professional awareness in a wide range of information-related issues is vital for all Chartership candidates. The lis-cilip-reg mailing list is a Jiscmail discussion list for academic librarians working towards Chartered membership status of CILIP, but candidates from other sectors are welcome to join. It provides list members with the opportunity to discuss professional issues with like-minded information professionals from a variety of specialisms and sectors.

Lesha Fossey and Rowena Macrae-Gibson, co-owners of the lis-cilip-reg mailing list, have provided a useful introduction on how the discussion list came into being, with current membership and usage figures.

For the Certification candidates' discussion list, go to www.jiscmail.ac.uk and join lis-cilip-aclip, whilst Revalidation candidates can join the lis-cilip-reval list.

CILIP Reading List

A comprehensive reading list of books and articles that may help you with ideas for training, increasing your professional awareness, developing your management skills, and collating and preparing the information and documents that you will need for your submission.
